I love reading aloud to kids. Whether it is to my own children, my students at school or during my kids yoga classes, there is just something about using literature with kids that can be calming, engaging or enlightening.
Depending on which book you are reading aloud can bring forth all sorts of teachable opportunities or memorable moments.
The Go Go Yoga for Kids: A Complete Guide to Using Yoga with Kids resource includes an extensive quality yoga read aloud list and lesson ideas to use with these books
Let the book come alive by reading with enthusiasm and emotion! I have found the illustrations help children visualize or pretend to become that animal or feel as if they are in the story. When you add movement, the kids will remember the poses and the story even more as they anticipate what comes next.
Two Favorite Yoga Read Aloud Books (and Free Kids Yoga Lesson)
The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle: Begin as Caterpillar and end as a beautiful butterfly: Kids can transition through the different stages of becoming a butterfly through yoga poses. See how with Go Go Yoga Kids FREE Springtime Transformation lesson here.
Mouse Count by Ellen Stoll Walsh: Is a fun choice to practice mouse and snake poses with this book. You can be used to introduce the concept of being “quiet as a mouse” for Savasana.

“Yoga is gaining in popularity all over the United States in yoga studios, gyms, YMCAs, fitness centers, and in schools. Yes, schools. Teachers, administrators, and students are discovering the power of yoga and pranayama (breathing exercises) to calm, focus, and inspire students. excitement, and energy…”
“Yoga taught to youngsters is fun for all involved and creates a connection between body and mind that will serve the kids for a lifetime…Not surprisingly, yoga classes for kids don’t look exactly like the yoga for adults. ”

Who is excited for the Summer Olympics:
What is your favorite Summer Olympics event?
I have always enjoyed watching gymnastics. Seeing the athletes twist, turn, and defy gravity was thrilling. I was so enthralled with those gymnasts achieving that “perfect 10” score. Who wouldn’t remember Mary Lou Retton?!
Now years and life experiences later, I truly appreciate all endurance sports. Participating in triathlons, marathons, and swimming events has given me perspective. Training and competing in high-level events is really a body and mind connection…for every sport!
Kids often have the dream of making it to the Olympics. I love their confidence that they can do anything. That vision is a precious time period in kids’ lives and now they can experience an Olympian feel!
Go Go Yoga for Kids wants kids to have fun getting focused and fit! With our Go Go Yoga for Kids Summer Olympics plan, they will become swimmers, archers, and equestrians while strengthening their mind and body.

There is no other symbol of our freedom than that of the American Eagle! Try Eagle Pose with your kids. It is wonderful for balance, core strength and detoxing as you hold this twisty tricky pose.
Make Some Fireworks:
There is so much creativity involved with this! How can you or a partner(s) make the best firework display you can? This reminds me of
growing up and creating cheerleading stunts with my friends. Get creative and take on the challenge. It can be wonderful for utilizing all sorts of muscles in your body.
Hot Dog:
Roll your child up in a blanket or yoga mats. I guarantee that they will remember this! Of course, they will need to get their giggles out first.
